He was an American muralist who began his career with Edwin Howland Blashfield (St. Matthew's Cathedral, Washington, D.C, "Westward" Iowa State Capitol.). He had many shared commission with Blashfield and other artists including A.E. Foringer. He created the mural series in Yonkers City Hall with A.E. Forginger. Large ceiling mural at the Boston Opera in Boston, MA.

I believe he was born in Naples and lived on Long Island until his death in the 1940s.

I have a picture done by him that has been handed down thru my wife's family and was wandering what the value of this particular picture would be because her brothers laughed at her for wanting to have the picture. On the back of the picture is the title "My Country Tis of Thee". I took a shot of it and tried to put it in the thread but have been unable to do it.

Default Aderente information

Hello
I work at the Utah State Capitol and we have a large mural called "The Dream of Brigham Young" that Aderente painted. I have found little information on him, but I did get some biographical info here: www.astorialic.org/topics/mural_p.php
the Greate Astoria Historical Society has information on an Aderente mural that was stolen.

Good luck with your search.

Default Vincent Aderente

There are two murals by Aderente in the New York State Supreme Court building in Jamaica, New York, bearing his name and "copyright 1940." One is entitled "Mosaic Law," and depicts Moses with the tablets of the Ten Commandments (in Hebrew), and the other is entitled "Constitutional Law." After working in this building since 1980, I just found out that the numerous figures in this second mural represent all of the Chief Justices of the US Supreme Court.

I am Vincent Aderente's granddaughter. All the info posted so far is correct. My grandfather painted murals professionally from the time he won an award to paint the ceiling of the Waldorf Astoria Ballroom at the age of 17. He worked as an assistant to Blashfield for over 30 years and also did work of his own. His work can be found from Florida to South Dakota. Several of his most famous murals are in the U.S. Mint in Denver, Colorado, The ceiling of the Boston Opera in Massachusetts, and The Detroit Public Library in Michigan. The murals in the Jamaica Court house were his last. He died in 1941.

Yes to both. My grandfather painted the Last Supper in Saint Anastatia Catholic Church in Douglaston, N.Y. c1936. The mural was behind the Altar, however the church was remodeled and the mural was destroyed.....one of very few that have been lost Jesus holding a lamb was in the choir area of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Salisbury, Maryland ( done in conjunction with Mr.Blashfield) Why do you ask???

Not previously discussed is a fine set of murals by Mr. Aderente ("Bayside, New York") I recently discovered called "Landing of Father Marquette," located in the old Whitcomb Hotel, St. Joseph, Mich. & completed by 1928. It consists of three panels, above and around the mantel in the Marquette (Dining) Room of the former hotel, designed by Chicago architects Pond, Pond, Martin, & Lloyd, & opened in 1928. It closed in the mid-1960s & was reborn as a retirement residence--the Whitcomb Senior Living Community-- in 1973. The murals are extant, though faded & neglected. The centerpiece above the mantel depicts Father Marquette greeting a group of Native Americans soon after stepping from a canoe onto the Lake Michigan shore. The two flanking & more vertical panels show Indians watching from nearby woods. The canvas appears to be adhered to the wall, so I surmise he created the work in his studio.

Vincent Aderente also painted the murals located in the Reno County Kansas courthouse that is located in Hutchinson, Kansas. If Glenn King would like more information about the murals, she can contact me at bill.hermes@renogov.org.

Although biographical information about Vincent Aderente is difficult to come by, it can be found on the internet, especially from websites sponsored by entities that own his murals.
Other artwork by the artist, such as oil paintings, etc, is more difficult to come by.
Aderente was a muralist; most of his finished works were intended to be permanent parts of the structures for which they were painted.
Several years ago I was fortunate to acquire a large oil on canvas painting (approximately 5 ft x 8 ft) by Aderente depicting New York City’s Five Points as it might have appeared in its heyday, circa 1827, based on a Valentine's Manual print from 1855. The painting was commissioned during the 1930s by a pawn shop located on 42nd St.
If Vincent Aderente’s granddaughter would like more information about the painting, I can be contacted at: artuniongallery@sbcglobal.net

Default Vincent Aderente's work with E H Blashfield

The ICA & CA has put forth a book published this year about Blashfield, "Edwin Howland Blashfield: Master American Muralist." I highly recommend it. I am hoping to find other images of the ceiling of the Astoria Ballroom - a detail of the mural by Blashfield is illustrated on p. 75 of this book. Could anyone direct me to others?

Also, I would like to be in touch w/ Vincent Aderente's granddaughter who posted to this topic earlier. I work with a collection that holds Blashfield drawings and would like very much to know more about Aderente's role in the process of producing the murals. I can be reached here (jackie.killian@gmail.com).

Many thanks,
Jackie

I also have a framed picture done by Vincent Aderente. It is the same "My Country Tis Of Thee" that some of you are talking about. Has anyone been able to find any information on it? Anyone know its worth?
