Hello all, I decided to join this site after several months of research on a painting my father acquired several years ago. I can't seem to find a signature on the painting but I know it is from the 16th century. I would appreciate any input/ideas about the painting.

Interesting painting. When I saw the title of the thread I was all set to pooh-pooh the idea that it was really that old, but it looks like it could be.
I enlarged your photo and made it slightly bolder, to make it a bit easier to see what's going on. Looks like perhaps a youth was discovered spying on the maidens and is running away. Very possibly a reference to an incident in mythology, but I don't know what story it would be. ![]() |

Not from the 16th but from the first half of the 17th for the original by Francesco Albani.

wow, thanks for the information. i had the painting looked at by a gentleman here in chicago that owns a gallery and we couldn't find a signature. there is, however, evidence that it was restored some time ago because there is another piece of canvas stretched over the back of the painting. do you think that maybe there may be a signature on the back? also, what would something like this be worth in its current condition if its worth anything?
