Hi, my name's Nina Meahan and I am in my fourth year studying Fine Art. I am currently writing a dissertation on the ever changing art world, I am mainly interested in the difficulties artists face making money from their art. It would be really helpful if some of you could answer these questions...
If you have ever applied for any arts grants; have you noticed a pattern in the selection process? From university, have you noticed a pattern in those who were in your year (if you attended Art school/ studied art at college) who gained success? Would you say that the degree you achieved has aided in any way to the work you have done/are doing today? Would you agree that alot of the time, in the art world, gaining recognition for your work has alot to do with who you know? Is there anything that you would do differenly, knowing what you know now about the art world? Do you think that it is "selling out" if an artist alters their work in order to make it more sellable? |

Good luck but I'm not sure how many visitors here have a degree in fine art. You might find more artists by trying communities like DeviantArt or the Saatchi Gallery website, where lots of professional and aspiring artists hang out and post their work. If you haven't done that already.
