Hi.
I recently came across this John W. Hill etching. Can anyone tell me what I have here? In my research it seems values are all across the board. Should I have it restored? If so; by whom? What is it's current value? What is the value after restoration? Basically any info you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks! Kevin www.RaleighFurnitureGallery.com |

It's easy to find info on J. W. Hill, as you know. But, it's difficult to provide estimates about your print's real value and whether it's worth restoring because it needs to be seen. I'd like to suggest that you find a very reputable print restoration firm in your area. I stress "very reputable" because the right firm will have a good look and will be honest. I think they will tell you the cost to restore and the possible value before and after restoration. Your print will need some restoration!
One that immediately comes to mind is The Philadelphia Print Shop but I know you're in Raleigh so you'll need to find one nearby. I think if you contact the Phila Print Shop, they'll provide you with some information about print restoration in your area and I've also provided a link to the American Historical Print Society: http://www.ahpcs.org/home.htm http://www.philaprintshop.com/services.html |

Note: in my previous post a few seconds ago, I referenced your item as a "print" - what you have, as you know, is an etching not a print. They are different.
