Does anyone know of an artist Hassan el Yashmid or anything about him?
Several of his paintings, Arabian scene water colours, are available in prints. I guess he was active in the early 1900's. |

Further to this post, I'm wondering if this could be another pseudonym of Arthur Dudley as the styles are very similar and the same Arabian scenes and the completion dates are very close. |

I have two prints by this artist. The prints originally belonged to my grandparents and I remember them hanging in their house from at least 1940. I am certain they must be from the start of the 1900's though.
One is of a camel rider overlooking the bay and the other is of a man sitting with a basket of oranges under two palms. Unfortunately I now have these prints with me in Spain and the sun has faded them quite badly so I assume they will be quite worthless!! |

I think you mean Hassan al Yashid. I have two prints of his which must date back to the beginning of the 1900's. One is of a man on a camel overlooking a bay and the other is of a man sitting with a basket of oranges under a palm tree.

I bought a framed work by this artist and it is of an Arab man on a camel overlooking a bay with a ethnic craft sailing with sails raised. There are some buildings in the distance and the man has a rifle slung over his shoulder.I do not know how to tell if it is a print or an original as I have not taken it out of the glazed frame. Can anyone tell me of it's value ?It is quite clean and bright colours.

I also have 2 very fine prints of Hassan el Yashmid ...THE TICRUS NR KURNA, which is a man on a camel talking to a man sitting on a rock under a palm tree....Also ... THE NILE NR KANTRARA, which is a man walking a camel with a lady riding, in both pictures there is a small shop, selling fruit with the pyamids in the background. These pictures are both in the origanal frames which are black.
They were my parents prints bought by them in 1928 when they married, they have been hanging all these years in our family dining room, and I would love to know more about the artist and if the pictures have any value attached to the them. .......Barbara |

Hi everyone who posted regarding this artist. Sorry I missed your earlier posts.
I'm very pleased to hear that other prints do exist. So far, I have been unable to find anything about this artist but I still suspect that it could be another pseudonym of Arthur Dudley aka Giovanni Barbaro as the styles and scenes are so similar and the dates the same. Barbara, my pictures are also in black wooden frames. What are your dimensions? Carolann, sorry to hear yours have faded but I'm sure still worth keeping. I would like to know where the original watercolours are! Can anyone post an image of their picture? I cannot comment on the value but I would not sell mine. They depict a tranquil and romantic Arabia in contrast to the present day. Look forward to any further discussion. |

Hi Barbara, I understand your problem - I also cannot post my photos as they exceed the upload limits. I managed to do it on a previous post but don't know how I did it! Best to send to John as he said and he will post it. Regarding the measurements, mine are 64cm x 33cm so a bit bigger than yours so that rules out any production consistency (I was thinking they may have been part of a series). I look forward to seeing them. Roger. |

Hi John, Regarding Barbara's post on problems uploading photos, I'm in the same situation. Have tried on several occasions to upload but always exceed the limits. I have tried other methods but all have failed. Any further advice on uploading photos to this site? |

Where did you buy your picture? You should be able to tell if its a print by looking at it with a magnifying glass. What is the approx size and what is the colour of the frame? Is there a date after the signature? Can you post a photo? Regards. Roger. |

Roger, re uploading: I just increased the size limit for images to 500K. That should be enough for most purposes -- anything about fullscreen or less should fit comfortably in that.

The frames are much wider than mine and more attractive. I see your dimensions have increased from your original sizes given in your earlier posting - they are quite big prints. I will try and find some info on the Copywright General Supply Co. (is it spelt copywright?). More later. Roger. |
