Default Classic Influences in Modern Art

Hi all,

I was looking into the topic of Classic Influences in Modern Art, such as Cranach on Currin, Goya on Chapman Bros etc. Although, many people have said that modern artist just "copy" old ideas.

If anyone can think of any more cases of this, please get back to me. It can even be to the point of remaking classic images as Glenn Brown does.

Thanks!

Edward

Don't know what that gibberish in the previous post means, but two artists possibly worth liiking at are Kathleen Gilje and Mark Tansey. However they're basically riffing on art history in their own way, rather than being "influenced" in any straight-ahead manner.

P.S. Just thought of the Northern European painters who influenced painters Grant Wood (Memling?) and Andrew Wyeth (Durer and Rembrandt).

Thank you for your reply, it was very helpful. I was also interested in Banksy's Crude Oil paintings. He recreated classics but brought them up to date.
