Default Thoughts on La Marieé by Marc Chagall?

Hi everyone,

My friend is moving into a new place, and I know she's a fan of Marc Chagall. I had bought a print of La Marieé to frame and give to her as a present, but I know nothing about art, and when it arrived I wasn't sure what to make of it.

I tried googling the significance, but all I got is that it appeared in the movie Notting Hill (which is why I bought it - she likes Chagall and has the quote that references that painting on her facebook page)

Is it too morbid to give as a present? She's French, and has a tiny studio apartment so it will probably be near the bed. Inappropriate? Or am I completing misunderstanding this piece?

And if it is, is there a Chagall painting you'd recommend as a gift?

Thanks so much for your help, and sorry for the uncultured questions.
