I also have a picture of Ver Men. It's a scene in Paris and it seems to be raining. The figures have coats and hats on. there are tall buildings like the other pic here and stands of what might be flowers. And down the street you can see the arch. I will post a pic soon. Does anyone want to sell me their's?
Mine also has the same frame.. |

Gee folks, Peter is a common first name. For those with paintings that look alike - don't forget they could be from mass produced asian art student paintings - where a group of students are paid to copy a work of art as quickly as possible - all for the commercial american/european markets.
The common technique used in these paintings is lots of trees, lots of mountains - and the trees have lots of leaves, all made with the palette knife - quick strokes, fast strokes - easy to spot, easy to make, and quickly done. You see so many of these paintings on the market today - especially in furniture stores and art outlets - they sell rather cheaply and the artist's names are all american sounding - common american names. I am so tired of seeing these paintings of late that anything with trees and knife made foliage, I quickly pass on by. Do these sound like your Peter paintings? To me they do - do they??? |

I have an oil painting I bought at a yard sale and don't know anything about it. It is a picture of a lake with a mountain in the background. It has 2 sailboats on the lake and a small boat on the bank of the lake by 2 houses. It is signed "PETER". Any info?

I'm afraid I have to jump on the bandwagon. I have one too. It is a Golden Gate scene, signed "PETER". My late husband picked it up long ago and I can't find anything on it either. Hope there is someone out there who will be able to help us. Here are a couple of pictures of my PETER Painting:

I just bought a very similiar painting at an antique store where the painting was tucked away in a corner. Have you ever found anything out about this artist? I can send a picture of my painting - and the signature - in order to determine if the artist is the same. Thanks, Sean thunderleaf@yahoo.com |

Yes, that would be great. I did find something about an artist in San Francisco. Don't know if this is his work though. Would like to see your painting for comparison. Here is the information I received:
Charles M. Peter Born in California in February 1878. While a resident of San Francisco in 1900-1914, Peter worked for the Wasp. He was the brother of artist Harry Peter. Exh. Newspaper Artists, 1903. Dee ddharano@cox.net Quote:
