I have a painting called Sisters by L.Campbell Taylor (1908) purchased from a Garring gallery IN Evanston il probably around 1940. Any info on this painting would be appreciated. I am pretty sure this painting is authentic.
Thanks, John

There does not seem to be much information on Taylor readily available on the internet; but there is some.

Leonard Campbell Taylor RA (1874-1969)
The painter Leonard Campbell Taylor studied at Cheltenham College, and on deciding to be an artist went first to St John's Wood, and then from 1895, for 3 years to the RA Schools, during which time he illustrated in many of the popular magazines of the day, including The Windsor Magazine. His first painting exhibited at the Academy was The Sentinel (1899) - with himself as the model. He achieved early success with portraiture, and gained a patron in the noted art collector Humphrey Roberts. In 1907 his picture The Rehearsal was purchased under the terms of the Chantry Bequest. He worked in a variety of genres, producing landscapes, scenes featuring Japanese people, historical pictures and, perhaps most appealing today, interiors with figures such as The Patient, Chess and The Rehearsal. He was one of a significant number of artists who were influenced by the later work of J. E. Millais.

Taylor's illustrative work, like many of his paintings, concentrated on figure subjects taken from middle class Victorian life, but the examples I have seen, while polished, have not been of the highest merit.

There are apparently books on him at Amazon, and the Bridgman Art Library shows that he has works in the collection of the Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum and Waterhouse and Dodd. You may wish to contact them to see whether they have anything in their files.

Be prepared for the possibility of getting no information from them either, however. As a museum professional, I know that many artworks which were donated in the past, came in with little or no documentation.

I have spent some time now veiwing examples of art. His work seems to be under other names as well. I was wondering if it is common for this to happen. I can see how this could happen it is hard to read his writing. The T in taylor stands out. Any input well be helpful thanks Vicki
