I have a J. Farquharson. The title is "Home Thru Woods" signed in pencil "Farquharson. My 83 year old mother acquired this as a young woman and I have been trying to find out about this for years perhaps someone can help me. I am including a photo and have more if anyone would like to see. I would appreciate any answers you might be able to give me.

My mother has the same print. There is a sticker on the back of the frame that has St. Louis Art Gallery. Have you found out any more about it? |

Hi folks, Joseph regularly reworked paintings slightly and gave them different names. It is also common for prints to be renamed as is the case with some modern day greetings cards producers who disgracefully give titles such as 'winter sunset' when the original painting has a beautiful and evocative name. He seemed to give more thought to titles for the 'grander' paintings it would seem to me which might suggest it is a similar work to another larger painting also set presumably in the Forest of Birse, Aberdeenshire or another area of Finzean Estate. Am happy to research more if you wish as I am a devoted Farquharson follower as an artist myself, have visited the Estate and have many scans, images and documents etc.
Thanks, Mark. |

I have what I thought was a print by JF but have recently been told it is an etching. It is signed by JF at the bottom right of the picture and at the bottom left of the paper it is on. I haven't been able to find it on the web. It is a picture of a mother and children walking in a windswept area. It is rather tatty. I would post a picture of it but don't know to. Any advice would be welcome Mark.
