I am in possession of small beautiful painting, it's signed, but no one in Poland is able to tell me who is the author. It's old, looks like XIX-th century, one of my friends who is also an art collector says that it can be early Seurat. This is a link to the photo of the painting:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2346872/Is%2...y%20Seurat.jpg I made a comparison of a few Seurat signatures: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2346872/Sign...comparison.jpg the second from the top is from the painting I owe. There are original Seurat paintings from Ville-D'Avray: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2346872/Seur...%20compare.jpg There is also Seurat drawing: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2346872/Seur...se-1882-84.jpg It looks like it is the same neighbourhood! Well, the style is different, but the painting I owe could be from earlier period? Can anybody help me with advice - is it worth to spend thousands (which I don't have) for expertises, or maybe there is another way to find out who painted it? |

That really doesn't look like an "S" at the beginning of the signature. If you can find a similar "S" in one of Seurat's signatures then you might be in luck, but to me it looks like an "O" possibly, or maybe something from a non-latin character set.
