Default Egyptian Statue in the Old Kingdom

Why do you think the Egyptians depicted men and women very similarly in their statues from the Old Kingdom?

Why do you think the women were depicted with their arm around the man, unlike today where the man usually is seen with his arm around the woman?

An image of this statue can be found at the following link: http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore...katep_and.aspx

Why are you asking our opinion on this? I assume this is a followup to the questions about Egyptian art posted the other day. Are you asking us to do your schoolwork for you?

I think they maybe depicted men and woman as the same to try to convey equality.

I think that the woman has her arm around the male in order to show that he is in control and she will follow him.

(Also I am in your class I think...History of world art online...If you could find my discussion post called Egyptian art could you respond to mine?)

Thanks hope this helps.
