Hey fellow art lovers!
I was just wandering if i could get 5 - 10 minutes of your time to help me in some research i am understaking. The goal is to design a iPad application to incorporate the ideals of a sketchook, i am aware there are others out there, this research is for a module and any information given will be greatly appreciated. If you would be so kind to fill in these quick 10 questions we can help save tree's. 1. Do you still use traditional art tools? 2. What are your reasons for using these/what do you think the benefits of traditional sketchbooks are? 3. Do you have an emotional connection to your sketchbook(s), or are they merely a means to get idea’s down? 4. Do you think of sketchbooks as potential as part of your portfolio or are they something you would share? 5. Tying in to the last question,do you keep different sketchbooks for different reasons? I know that I keep two sets of sketchbooks, one for work which I would consider finished drawings, that I would be happy to show anyone, and the other for ideas and mind dumps which no one else gets to see. 6. Do you use digital sketching tools? If so, do you use them seriously or casually? 7. Do you feel the same emotional connections to digital sketches as traditional ones? Could digital sketching ever completely replace traditional sketching in your life? 8. Since our long-term goal is to produce an iPad sketching app, have you used any of the current iPad drawing apps suck as layers, brushes or sketchbook pro? 9. How do you feel about using your finger to draw? Is it intuitive? Would you prefer a stylus? 10. Overall what is the most important thing you would like to see in adigital sketching app? – Why is this? How will this help? Before i get spammed this is not spam, there is no commercial use of the information that will hopefully be shared here. all information gathered is only used as a reference to the pro's and con's of traditional sketchbooks/digital tools. |

I'm no an artist so I won't attempt to answer your questions, but here are a couple of other comments...
- You might want to try this on a site like DeviantArt, if they have an appropriate discussion forum. Lots more people there, and a lot of heavy-duty users of this kiind of technology. - Be wary of the desire to give people what they want. When you're making minor tweaks, users generally know what they want; when you're developing whole new ways interacting with computers, they generally don't. The iPad is so new and innovative that there must be lots of potential ways to use it for creating art that haven't been done before and would really set your app apart from the others. Just my 2 cents as a software developer. |
