Default Martin Puryear Sculpture - African American - MoMA

Dear Art Conversation Visitors,

I hope you can take time to visit the online presentation of Martin Puryear's work at the Museum of Modern Art - and I am so jealous of those of you who can visit it in person.

There is a wonderful Flash presentation on the Museum of Modern Art site:
http://www.moma.org/exhibitions/2007...ear/flash.html
http://www.moma.org/exhibitions/2007/martinpuryear/
Look - see how Puryear has been influenced/inspired by African art.

I found out about this exhibit in New York Times.

Martin Puryear is a new name for me.
See slide show in the New York Times article:
Art Review | Martin Puryear
Humanity's Ascent, in Three Dimensions
By ROBERTA SMITH
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/02/ar...gn&oref=slogin

From the article:
"Mr. Puryear, who was born in 1941 and grew up in Washington, D.C., is
a former painter who emerged from the Minimalist and Postminimalist
vortex making hand-worked, mostly wood sculptures. These soothe more
than seethe, balancing between the geometric and the organic with Zen
aplomb."
The Martin Puryear show continues through Jan. 14 at the Museum of Modern Art.

Bookmark this index for New York Times. I don't always post when there is something good to see.
