pablo picasso's masterpieces are very famous and can sold for a large amount of money . So his works are the target of the robbers! How come?

A variety of reasons I guess, same as the recent thefts of Munch paintings.

To sell (even though the work can never again be sold on the open market). To ransom back to the owner. To own, even if you have to be very careful about showing it to anyone.

Even just a dispute over ownership or principles. Art attracts a lot of people who hold strong opinions. When Vincenzo Perugia stole the Mona Lisa in 1911, he claimed he did it because Leonardo was Italian and he felt the painting should rightfully reside in Italy.

spanish cubist artiat pablo picasso's Nature Morte a la Charlotte had been stolen from the Center Pompidou.After a few months,it was found in a drug seller's home.

Maybe this is the mark of a true art lover. Someone who is willing to steal a painting just for their own enjoyment, not for profit??

Here are two additional reasons as to why paintings are stolen -> according to a recent article in the LA Times:

1) Criminal gangs sometimes use them as surety in deals: a drug dealer might give a supplier a $5-million painting in return for a batch of cocaine. When the dealer has sold the cocaine, the supplier is paid and the painting returned.

2) Money laundering: As a token of value, famous paintings can be a useful way for criminals to move money about.

"One of the easiest ways to transfer value across international borders is to roll up a painting in a tube....If you're caught, unless it's very well known, you'll probably be able to convince customs officials that you bought it at an antiques market." The same cannot be said for a suitcase full of cash or white powder.
