Default Please help identify this painting

This painting hung in my grandmothers home for at least 40 years before her house burned down. This is the best capture from a picture that is 10 years old that I could get.

I would like to find out if it was a print so I can get her another one. No idea how old it was, I just remember it already being there when I was a wee little tyke.

i saw a painting in the louvre many years ago and am having trouble remembering its name and the name of the artist. The painting was of a distraught man cradling what i thought was his dead wife. The dead wife was chaulk white and the anguish on the mans face was haunting! Need help identifying this painting any ideas anyone??

Default More information

I learned this painting was willed to my grandmother in 1970 by a then 95 year old man. The painting had belonged to his mother and was over 100 years old in 1970, putting the date back to around 1870 or earlier.

Any information or leads on an artist would be greatly appreciated. Suggestions on where else I can post the picture would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Findartinfo.com and Askart.com also have forums. I don't know if the second one has an appropriate area for unknown artist questions, but maybe.

Thanks John. I will check those sites. I also added it to the Antiques Roadshow site in hopes of some leads.
