http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jT5jL...layer_embedded DUNUN _ Be going to communicate _ Single Channel Video HD 00:02:45 _ 2010 Visual music : Jung Bong Won Eyes always want to see the beautiful and pretty things only. After realizing that opposite extremes have much in common, now I know why we have two eyes. Thoughts of Two Eyes 31 years after arriving in the planet earth. ![]() DUNUN_ Another eye _ Nails, Notebook _ 2008~ Another eye There is a hole at the broken edge of the laptop. When I put the collected nail pieces together to fill up the hole, I couldn’t finish it because it formed a shape of an eye by chance. This laptop I am still using is which enables me to have a glimpse at and participate in the virtual space. Also, there is a sticker which says, “Does art makes you dizzy?” printed. If you don’t have a close look at it, it looks like asking “Does alcohol makes you dizzy?” Found a nail image in the airplane engine In summer 2008, Two Eyes(dunun) joined railing production in New York and worked on metal finishing and corroding and coloring of it by using chemicals for weeks. He, then, expressed ‘Tong(Communication)‘ the core of this video pieces with 8 nail pieces grown during the time. Two eyes left Korea for the work for the first time in his life. While waiting to transfer at the airport, though he wasn’t sure whether or not it was a coincidence or a fate, he found a shape of nail in the engine, the heart of the airplane, and recorded it with his camcorder with great happiness. ![]() ![]() New York Times Square where Two Eyes felt the sublime During railing work Two Eyes went sightseeing over the weekend taking the days off because of the noise. The most impressive place was Times Square where he was overwhelmed with the sublime by its enormous billboard. Two Eyes came back after 15 days of work and tour in New York. ![]() Seoul Gwanghwamoon Square where the two statues are holding a book and a knife If there is Times Square in New York, there is Gwanghwamoon Square in Seoul. Sejongro with 600 years of history was reborn as a square in 2009 where people can communicate with each other. Soon the statue of King Sejong was set up behind General Yi Sun-Shin who used to be the symbol of the street. The images of the two statues are very contradictory, yet they have much in common in that they will be remained as honored person by descendants in future ages. Wounded heart of humans is implied through the nail. which shows human-oriented square and capital-oriented square tried to connect and communicate through . All contradictory elements co-exist: progress versus conservatism, vice versus virtue, shame versus pride, cleanness versus dirtiness, and so on. We tend not to see what we don’t like. However, because we don’t see it, it doesn’t mean that it disappeared. It sometimes is festered and causes serious problems. We have to communicate with each other whether or not we like it. True communication begins from knowing the difference between you and me. Furthermore, it is ourselves who have to struggle to communicate better. It’s because all these are formed and exist in the heart and body. They say “Someone can hardly notice the infection of heart, yet the one can notice the thorn in the nail tip.”! Look at the nail with life trace! Can’t you hear the wounded heart through your two eyes? . . . . . http://21cagg.org/gnuboard4/bbs/boar...nglish&wr_id=4 |
