A film about the Austrian artist Gustav Klimt is due for European release in March/April 2006. It's called 'Klimt' and is directed by Raoul Ruiz. Klimt is portrayed by John Malkovich. Other actors include Veronica Ferres, Saffron Burrows, Stephen Dillane, Paul Hilton.
More info & pictures can be found at http://www.moviesonline.ca/film1308.htm (August Schmölzer portrayed Klimt in the 2001 film 'Bride of the Wind'). |

Just so there is now confusion (or perhaps to add to the general confusion), I just checked a half dozen sites with news on the film and the SHORTER version is the producer's cut, while the longer version is the director's. This makes the most sense. Reviewers who have seen the shorter version tend to be a bit more negative about the film. Then again, people who aren't familiar with Ruiz's work or don't appreciate it tend to be negative about any given film he does.
I really hope this film gets some play here in the US or at least a DVD release. |

This is very true. There are articles that compare the two versions (such as the Variety one), and the director's version (the longer version) seems superior. It seems that Ruiz fans would rather watch the full version, and, from what I can tell, the longer version also allows new viewers a better chance of getting something substantial from the experience. Why then they won't release the director's cut to most distributors nor put it on any of the DVDs is beyond me! |
