I know it's very troublesome that you are very clever but few oppertunities for hard working such like you . I think it's good for art lovers(it means you) to spend their lifetime for Art .
Do you like collecting magazines or newspaper cutting about art (or poster)? I always do that because it's quite meaningful to do that . Ah...there is an program named "1 minute in a museum" (I don't know you have heard it or not) is presented by Musee du Louvre , Musee d' Orsay and some organizations . Each of the program last for one minute and it introduces paintings by impressionists to modern artist or some artists that are not so famous but I think so of them are quite interesting . |

I really don't understand your point of view...Why an artist would need to be famous to be good? What a no sense! And I don't think modern rings like against all traditions. You should wander why you like an artist (or dislike him), and the real definition of modernity in art. I dont criticize your tastes, but your position should be more open-minded: to do that, nothing else a good virtual culture, and oftenly perpetual questions about art, it meanings and aims...
About your list: -Dali: Why not? But I'm not a fan... -Hockney: can't judge cause I've to admit I don't know his work at al -Vincent van Gogh: a giant, a genius of solar light and power of colors, georgeous master of touch, life and mouvement and painting. I can only love! -E. Manet: a "modern painter" as definited by Baudelaire in some lines I'm crazy of, with a regard to Goya and Venetian painters. An artist I don't know so well, but I really like in his religious like contemporary works. -Renoir: such a georgeous portraitist... I've recently seen at Paris "Le Déjeune des canotiers" in an exhibition showing Phillip's collection modern masterpieces, and I enjoy with a rare feeling of peaceful life and hapiness. -Monet: its way to a kind of abstraction is quite great; especially in his series, like Rouen's cathedral. He was an important contributor to "avant-gardes" of the beginning of 20th century. -Impressionist: hum, interesting, but a movement who can't live so long, because of its few subject, and lack of innovation. Fortunately, there will be Gauguin, Cezanne, Seurat, van Gogh and Matisse soon after... -Degas: like a modern pupill of Ingres, very powerful in rendering of mouvement. Some of his painting, looking like pastels, are simply atonishing of genius! -Paul Gauguin: what a passionating character, with a strange life...his work is fascinating, looking to a modernity mixed with an impossible return to Eden. I so enjoy its interpretation ob biblical themes as tahitian universe. -Alfred Sisley: don't know well, hard to have a sincere judgement... |

First , I need to say "sorry" for my opinion because some of them may attack you (or hurt you) so please be careful .
First , I don't think we should like or have a passion in those artists whose are not famous because: 1) artists are famousand be respected because they did something that have adventages for people to respect or like them . 2)I think art should be have some "revolution" because it needs some changes and I think art cannot be in the "old step" . It need something new that make people feel interesting . 3)If the artists are no good , the quality of their masterpieces may be very low . 4)I believe that a good artist can produce fine drawings (may be I can called it masterpieces ) and both the artist and his work will be respected by citizens . 5)I have read one of the books about the biography of Pablo Picasso (of course in Chinese verison ) There are few sentences said like this : We need to produce fine artworks for all people , including those like business man , citizens etc . So I think artworks should be produced for all people . I think if someone can have this attitude , they can make good works . 6)You like an artist or dislike him is just people's choises . Different people should have different minds (I think) . If all people like the same artist or dislike somebody , the world will be very very dull !!! 7)I think some of the modern artists cannot make good work and said this in a bad way they can almost called " rubbish " . 8)If the artists are not famous , that is because they did not have their own " style " or they need to improve and do better . Second , I want to talk about impressionism . 1)I support your opinionthat impresion did not lasted for long because they have lack of painting topics ( for example they liked painting landscape ...landscape...and also landscape that make me so bored ) and they put " light " as the first thing that they must concerned . IN FACT , Van Gogh , Gauguin and Cezanne later discovered that impression drawing techniques are not well-improved so they developed new kinds of skills to express their inner expression . 2)I think one of the impressionist was has a deep passion on classical things so he loved Ingres so much and of course he always learns from his " idol " and also keep copying and copying . I think he was born in a wrong time . 3)In fact , impression only changed how they look on an object , not going to change the whole thing so thir works are still so realistic . 4)I still think taht modern art has lots of good places for us to learn but we need to choose . At last , if you think my opinion from above is very poor or disgusting to you , please let me know and I should sorry once more to you . |

No, you don't have to excuse yourself: I'm the one who have to be sorry if I could have been a bit violent. It's just there's so light and unargumented words about modern art, and I dislike those...

I dislike when we judge about something we don't know. For example, a good understanding of modern art needs a very strong known of cultural background and oftenly history of art since the more ancient times. Very difficult, but that's the prize to really appreciate such artists like Bacon or Pollock. |

Last time I read the newspaper and discovered the exhibition you mentioned about . The following picture is Renoir 's famous work
" Le Dejeuner Des Canotiers " 1881 "The Luncheon of the Boating Party"; Oil on canvas, 129.5 x 172.7 cm (51 x 68 in); Phillips Memorial Gallery, Washington, DC. Pride of the Phillips Collection, it was bought from the artist in 1881, and remained in Durand-Ruel's private collection until 1923, when his sons sold it to Duncan Phillips. I 'm sorry because I don't know how to insert phtots . |

The masterpiece " Le Dejeuner Des Canotiers " by Renoir had appeared in a French film named " Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le " (in english that is Amelie from Montmartre ) and Audrey Tautou acted in this film . An old man draw this painting once a year (of course he said ) I have seen this movie and it is very fascinated .
Few questions I want to ask you : 1) Why you said that there is something to see at least one time in a life ? So high thinking ! 2) How do you separate Art and Design ? In our art lessons , that is called " Art and Design " but actually I don't what mean is it . 3) In France do you use English ? |

Last year , Genevieve Laporte (a woman who have two years secret affair with Picasso , sell the 20 sketches that produced by Picasso .
Some news said that Ms Laporte wanted all the sketches would be bought by one person because some people said Picasso 's technique was very bad in handling female topics . How do you think ? |
