I have a beautiful painting also buy Straski...the one i have is a Rabbi sitting and reading by candle light...it appears he is in a cloth made from the materials they used in the camps. I once was able to reach a place called "The Tree of Life" I am not sure it was a long time ago. but it was in Chicago and they wanted me to bring in the painting. They had other works from him. I didn't have a chance at that time to do so. But they felt his works where very valuable and knew what I had. My painting has a certified # on the back. It is so beautiful and I can't believe these paintings could go for little money. I can feel the presence of the rabbi as if he where in the room. we need to get this great artist known. He deserves better.

In the 1970's Abraham Statski livied in Coxsackie, NY with his wife. My husband went to his home to repair some lawn equipment. He was working on a painting at the time and my husband admired it. When he returned to complete the job Mr. Statski gave my husband the painting and told him that this one was not commissioned so he could not sign it. He changed his mind and signed it anyway. Apparently it was to be his last. It is the Sleeping Rabbi. The Rabbi is sound asleep with his hand holding up his head and the other hand hanging holding an open Torah.

My husband has about 15 Rabbi Abraham Straski original oil paintings and one sailor painting. They were all purchased by my husband online over the past 10 years. We paid anywhere from $70 to $600 apiece. We are hoping that some day they will be worth much more than that.

I also have a Straski. It is of a Rabbi asleep, his head resting on his right hand and an open book held with his left hand, opening onto the floor. I bought it from a Jewish friend at my work place.

I have one of a Rabbi sitting at desk with his head resting on his hand at the side of his head, the desk is sloped like a lectern and has a candle on the corner, the back of canvas has his name printed in English and I'm not sure
of the other Language. We bought it Jaffe Israel in the early 70's Maybe 74 |

I too have a Strazki, much as you described, with a Torah scroll in his left hand. I am still looking for more information and the possible value of the piece. |

I see postings for Abraham Straski.... who is he? The same as Abraham? Anyone know?
I have a original oil painting signed A. Straski of a rabbi holding a torah. I have an original phamplet out lining the life of Aharon Straski who spent many years in Nazi occupied poland and russia. It was in these years however, that he began to amass his artistic experience and to feel the urge to sketch and paint the people of great character around him. Self taught developed his talent from humble beginnings. His father, a Rabbi, encouraged him in his vocation, unremunerative as it was. At this time of my purchase 20+ yrs ago he was in sixties. |

I have an oil painting but my painting is Aharon Straski (not strazki and not abraham strazki). He is standing with right hand on the bottom of the torah and left hand at the top holding it at waist level. How do I determine if this is a real or fake? Purchased it over years ago. |
