Thumbs up Mark Grotjahn - abstract paintings

I recently read an article on abstraction and the overuse of symmetry and how it often takes over the entire composition. I can see how this would be a problem, however there are artists out there who can manipulate this to their advantage. If you look at works by Mark Grotjahn for instance, you can see that the artists uses symmetrical lines to create an illusionary world. I consider his work to be abstract. Drawing influence from both modernist abstraction and pop culture, Mark Grotjahn’s paintings are intimate seductions of symmentrical lines, ususally from a central perspective point. By the use of straight lines, the artists creates sleek 3-d forms that dissolve into infinity, giving an effect of physical solidity. You can view his works here (paste into browser)
