Dear ArtConversation Vistors
Some of you may be interested in the drawings of Martín Ramírez (1895–1963). See "Outside In" by Roberta Smith http://www.nytimes.com/pages/arts/design/index.html http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/26/ar...tml?ref=design "Ramírez, who created the roughly 300 drawings that make up his known work between 1948 and 1963 while confined to a mental hospital in Northern California, is simply one of the greatest artists of the 20th century." "Martín Ramírez" continues through April 29 at the American Folk Art Museum, 45 West 53rd Street, Manhattan. It will also be seen at the Milwaukee Art Museum, Oct. 6 through Jan. 6, 2008. More on Martín Ramírez: some biographical information (although dates are different): http://www.phylliskindgallery.com/se...ht/artbrut/mr/ selected works on exhibit at American Folk Art Museum: http://www.folkartmuseum.org/default.asp?id=1805 Also browse the other exhibits (Amish quilts and more) http://www.folkartmuseum.org/default.asp biographical info on AskArt: http://www.askart.com/askart/r/marti...n_ramirez.aspx some works: http://www.fleisher-ollmangallery.co...6&page=1&img=0 http://www.edlingallery.com/dynamic/...sp?ArtistID=10 Characteristic of his work is the frame-like border created with line.
