Painting by Dreher 1922

I inherited a rather large painting and would like to find information on the artist. The painting is dated 1922 and signed by Dreher. Where can I go to find information on this artist?

Hi,

I've got few words about Richard Deyer (born in 1875 in Dresden) in Bénézit's dictionnary of artist, but a former edition from 1976, where he's said to have travelled in France and Italy before setting in Germany, near Dresen; about his works, he'd oftenly painted landscapes in a neo-impressionist style.

The artist name in the lower right hand corner is Dreher not Deyer. The letter D looks as if it has a small c on the straight line of the D. The letter h trails down to make the 1 in 1922. It is a beautiful landscape with deer, mountains, and a waterfall. I did not measure it but I would guess that it is approximately 4 ft long and 3 1/2 ft wide. The painting is in a very ornate gold frame.

There's a huge German image bank called Bildarchiv der Kunst und Architektur that lists 3 Drehers (although I kind of wonder if "Richard" and "Eduard Richard" aren't the same person). Click on "Kunstler" and drill down using the list at the left.

Artprice has an enormous database, primarily of auction records, and they list several Drehers. Most of the information about each of the artists is limited to subscribers, though.

Replying to request for information about artist painter Richard Dreher, born 1875 in Dresden. I am the grandson of this painter and would be happy to correspond with the person who inherited the painting signed Dreher. Would need to see a photo image of the painting to ascertain if by my grandfather.
