Dear ArtConversation Visistor (especially eductors).
I know many of you use "The Scream" at Halloween time... Here is another one to feature (new to me). John Quidor, "The Headless Horseman Pursuing Ichabod Crane", 1858 http://eyelevel.si.edu/ The Headless Horseman Pursuing Ichabod Crane - Speaking of Pictures Interactive http://americanart.si.edu/collection.../sp_quidor.cfm Great way to tie in American literature, too. "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving, 1819 Joe and John, I need more paintings/artowrks that are based on Literature/Poems. Can you send some to the Forum? I will also post my question in "Questions". I already have "Number Five in Gold" (based on Poem). Enjoy, Judy Decker |

Re Hallowe'en, here's a link to a page of macabre art I set up several years ago. Many of the links are probably out of date, but it's a good place to start if you want to get spooked by some art images.
http://www.artcyclopedia.com/subject...s-macabre.html Judy, I'll give some thought to artworks based on American literature. Nothing comes to mind right away, except for illustrated books of which there are many examples (I particularly like Barry Moser's work). |
