Default Suggestions for selling oil paintings online

I'm working with an older artist who is wanting to sell his afterwork online. He would either like to sell copies of it to be reproduced on canvas and acrylic, or sell poster versions of his work. His artwork combines magical realism, spiritual Aztec and native american themes and legends. Most people find it beautiful and rich in meaning. He had about 50 pieces he would like to post online. His intention is that once a order is recieved online, we would mail them the painting or poster.

So here are the questions we have:
1. Can anyone recommend a good site to sell on?

2. Is there a way to post the images online, so that they can't be copied or saved by the casual observer. In other words, so they can't be right-clicked and then copied to their desktop. We've seen some sites in the past who prevent this somehow. How is this done?

3. Is there anyone who has a simmilar business. Any recommendations?

Thank you and greatly appreciate any advice,
Sven

Hi,
I am a Chinese artist,I am doing the same thing as you described, that is to say, I am selling reproductions, originals and printings of my works. But to tell you frankly this is very difficult task. But I can tell you there are lots of sites where you can sell your paintings online for free such as : www.artistrising.com www.artbreak.com www.unitedcreators.com
Wish you good luck.
You can see my personal websites: www.yilianart.com www.zhenart.com

Default Local art sales - craigslist.org

For local sales, I've put art up on http://www.craigslist.org for Raleigh artist Sonia Kane ( www.soniakaneart.com ). It also helps to target the sales locally so shipping costs aren't as much of an issue.

Default Paod Galleries

This is a new site which will promote your paintings on other sites for free. They will list them and promote them using other sites. These sites have a combined total of over 4 million hits a month.

They also provide you with your own gallery page on their site. The URL would be www.paodgalleries.com/yourname.

Just go to www.paodgalleries.com

If you're still looking, the magazine Artists and Illustrators has a free portfolio on its website where you can showcase work. I would be interested to hear if you have had much luck with sales!

Hello Javed,
I'm Angelo from colombo. I sell my paintings locally to foreign tourists, but I am not satisfied with this.
I wish to have the world see them, and reach out to customers on an international level. how do I go about this? I do not wish to pay money upfront to any of the online art brokers.
My e-mail: angelocroner@yahoo.com

I too know a good site to sell online, without commission.. it's www.diffuseart.com and it's a brand new site. You can subscribe for free, so it can't be a better deal! I've put my own work on it already and it's trustable

Good luck selling or buying!

Hello Gunther, Nanette here. I have a very old oil painting by Edmond Van Coppenole. Late 1800s. Would like to sell and would take $20,000. Most of his works are in Belgium and France museums or galleries. If you have an interest, you can contact me via email. cromartienanette@yahoo.com. thanks so much. nan
