Hello there!
I have several paintings in my home that I love but wished I knew more about. I cannot seem to relate the signatures with any artist that is easily recognizable and cannot make out the name on one in particular. Just interested in artist, age, history, anything that might make me love them more! Not selling but value is always interesting : ) Please see photos in link. They were all "junk store finds" sitting in piles of frames, posters and pictures. That is the only place I ever find stuff. Please help if you know anything!!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/4372425...7627758706124/ |

The one by "Cladius" looks like an imaginary view of Sacre Coeur in Paris. The one by "Keith" looks like an imaginary view of the Arc de Triomphe. Of course they could be fully accurate views of some other city in the world, but I think Paris is most likely.

Thanks John. I looked those places up. Certainly seems possible! I would imagine that I may never find anything about these artist as they may very well be someone just as ordinary as me that made a lovely little painting and just named it..."keith", lol. I would be interested in dating these paintings and getting the information about the watercolor as well.
Thanks again! |

It may well be that all 3 of those paintings were done by artists who had never even been to Paris. You might be interested (or horrified) to read this article on the Chinese city of Shenzhen, which churns out 5 million paintings a year.
http://www.spiegel.de/international/...433134,00.html Frankly the illustration you posted is more interesting to me. It's not exactly great art, and those tourist pieces are more decorative to hang in your home, but the illustration seems more original and authentic, more "real". |
