Can anyone help me?

This picture has been in our attic for over 60 years. Does anyone know what it is and if it's worth anything? Thanks so much.

Is it an oil painting? Is there a signature, or anything at all written on the front or the back?

For me, it kind of has a modern feel, as if it was an N.C. Wyeth painting of a historical event, maybe around the time of the U.S. Revolutionary War or the Napoleonic era. I assume the jackets would be a major clue.

In the bottom left corner (it is framed and paper old so I don't want to open it from the glass) it say c 1911 and under that is an illegible signature that looks something like 2 initials looking like A and an upside down V and then Muh__and maybe r. I can try a closer picture if you would look.

If you're saying it appears to be on paper, then it may be a print based on an original painting. You might want to find an art expert who can tell you what medium it is and maybe open it up to tell see if anything else is there.

As for the name, if if does begin "Muh", then that's a pretty good clue. I looked at the Getty's ULAN database of artists and at Artprice, and it looks like the list can be narrowed down to a dozen artists or so who could have been active before 1911 (if you throw out anyone named "Muhammad). It looks like it's by a pretty competent artist, so there's a good chance they would be on one or the other of these lists.
