Found on street 17 years ago. Help?

I know you get this quite a bit, however you are the best detectives I know...
Oil on canvas, measures 3'x2'
Gilliland? Is what I read? However I don't think so. I found this on the street and has been hanging on our wall for over 17 years. It was buried in a garbage pile in Brooklyn Heights, NY in 1993
Any help is appreciated and thank you.

I have 2 things to say about this...

1. The signature is eerily similar to that on another (totally different) work that was reposted earlier today.

2. I played with names like Gilligan or Milland for a couple of minutes, until suddenly it clearly read: "9:44 am". Make of that what you will.
