Default A. Riodin or A. Rodin?? Watercolor and Pencil

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me identify this painting I got at an estate sale.
My husband thinks the signature is A. Rodin, but I'm doubting it since that guy did sculptures.

But either way I just love it. It's a pencil and watercolor and about 4x7 inches.

I've attached links to the photos I have of it.

Many thanks

Your images did not come through.

Auguste Rodin did sketches, paintings as well as sculptures. http://www.musee-rodin.fr/en/rodin/c...-auguste-rodin

Here's an example of an unauthenticated Rodin drawing that showed up on the Antiques Roadshow (US version). The commentary is worth reading for the insight into Rodin's drawing and the thought process you go through when judging whether a work is authentic.

The signature doesn't look to be the same. Rodin's always looked like this as far as I can tell.

Yes, in all the examples of his signed drawings I found, the "A" had a sharp peak rather than being rounded, to name one difference.

But IMO the drawing is definitely intended to be taken as a work by Auguste Rodin, whether or not it is authentic. I hate pronouncing works to be fake based on the signature, because my own signature changes from time to time and I don't see why that couldn't be true of anyone else.

I saw those same signatures...and so figure its not an *A. Rodin*.

and although my signature changes constantly too.. I think it's not a true A. Rodin.....which is fine with me... it's even better without all the pressure of being overly fancy

Thanks everyone

Hi,

you can contact the musee rodin in paris and they can authentic or not - they charge a fee, but may give you an initial indication of it they think it is or isn't prior to the official evaluation. i think an evaluation is approx 500 euros from memory but if it is a Rodin it would be worth it.
