Paul Renard? Not positive but most of his signatures look to be signed P. Renard...not all in capitals.

Example of his work - much more at google image search.

Auction results - http://www.findartinfo.com/search/li...?keyword=11302

Edit: Started thinking about the date... you're sure it says '61? Paul Renard was born in 1871 and died in 1920. Copy artist perhaps?

Wouldn’t surprise me if this painting is made in China.

A photo would help to be sure of this assertion.

Thanks for posting the pic's. I see that there are two Paul Renard's, the other one born in 1941 died in 1997. Not the same style either. Reminds me a little of some of Uttrilo's work. http://www.ablevypb.com/item--Paul-R...ene--3144.html

Default oilon bd renard

the pics aren't high detail enough but the" p."in the sig. isnt all the way closed as it might be the letter "F" if i had to guess.does that option offer any insight into who the artist might be if at all!

I'm craning my head around the monitor, and depending on the angle it looks like a "P", a "F", or an "E". In any case it doesn't appear to be the Paul Renard discussed here.

barring any unforseen revalations in authenticating the artist i feel as though
this may be forgery or as one comment went "chinese" not having any provenance maybe a copy of some sort .the post'll stay up and who knows in the future, maybe ?
thanks all for the help

I'm not sure that this should be dismissed as a Chinese copy. mp.kunst mentioned that before the photo's were posted. Renard is a popular French name I believe, if it was someone trying to pass of a Paul Renard as in the 1871 version they would not have attached the date '61. Don't believe I have ever seen dates on the factory paintings. Looks to me to be of much better quality. There is a simplicity to it. What do your friends think of it?? I like it!!

It reminds me of Utrillo as well. He's not really my cup of tea, but a lot of people do like his work.

the most copied french artist "utrillo".i have a 24"x 18" print on canvas, bought at an estate sale ,heard they we're given away with enough tokens after buying soap.cool print though!the last jpeg is a shot of the printed title on the canvas edge of the title "eglise de strins".varnished the print and everything .reproduction in spades, the frame is decent

Just click "Post reply" below left and use the paperclip icon to upload an attachment. There is an upload limit of about 500K.

I can't provide any more info on that painting, but I found yet another one by the same artist. Like the first one in the thread, it is signed "P RENARD PARIS 61".
