Post Trying to find out artist name through description of painting style

Hi, some years ago I came across a book which showed the artwork of what I believe is a female American painter. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the artist and have lost contact with the family that owned the book. I would be very appreciative of any assistance anyone can give as I have googled my heart out to no avail. I am based in Australia and am finding resources here limited.

The artist paints mainly pinto/ paint horses of brown/tan and white colouring against backgrounds of cliffs and snow covered landscapes so that the horses almost blend in to the scenery. The paintings have a native American feel to them although I am not sure if that is the style or just my impression and I do not know if the artist is a Native American. I'm sorry but I can't tell you the type of paint used as I only saw the prints in a book, but I do not believe they were watercolour.

Any information on the artist or tools which could help me find out about the artist would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you are thinking of Bev Doolittle.

Default Locating piece of art

I am trying to find the name of a painting of an ancient man (biblical times?) sitting on a podium type seat with his forehead resting on his hand as if he is forlorn. I saw it years ago and it has never left my mind but I have no idea who the artist is or the title of the painting, can anyone help?

Hi, I recently saw a painting of a woman with dark, wavy hair down to her mid-back. She is in a white dress, looking away from the viewer across a lake/bay from a stone balcony. Her head is facing right and her hands are raised as if to shield her face. There is a silver bracelet on her right wrist. The background has a distinct brown/tan tinge to it. I really loved the painting when I saw it, but cannot seem to find it anywhere. Thanks!

Default Another painting (well, lithograph) that i do not know the name or artist of

Ok, pretty much, they are in a kitchen, a mother and 3 kids, one of them being a baby, one a toddler, and one around age 7 or 8. the floor is brick; the mother is on a large chair with baby on hip, toddler standing beside her, looking at baby. the other child is in a small chair and she looks to be knitting something. they are near a table with a couple of pots, and there is an open fire on the other side of the kitchen with a pot over it. there is a basket under the table with what looks to be wool in it. Mother wearing a white bonnet and a blue dress; the baby with a white bonnet and white dress. the toddler has short, blonde, curly hair and a pink dress. the other child has a gray bonnet and a green dress. they all have special blue polish wooden shoes with a point at the toe. there is a window with many small strips of wood decorating it, and a very large window at that. overall, the family is poor. if anyone has seen a painting with this description, please contact me by e-mail. it is (ozzman_13step@yahoo.com). thank you for your time, Josh Stephenson.

Default Trying to find out the name or artist

I saw a painting/print today that I would like to get a copy of, unfortunately I could not find the artist name. The print was a sea side theme. The subject was a woman with long flowing red hair sitting on the rocks watching a ship in the ocean. The ship was either sinking or in high waves. The woman was wearing a green dress, possible of the medieval styling(with long sleeves and a long flowing skirt). Any help will be appreciated. Thank You!

She's not in a green dress, but I think the painting is Miranda and the Tempest, by Waterhouse.

Default "The promised land" Artist unknown

I would like to find out the artist name of an old print Circa 1940's or earlier.

The print is in the original frame by Geister & Zmich 110 So. Wabash Ave. Chicago, with a label stating: Plate III "The Promised Land" By courtesy of Mrs. Newton Trier.

I can not find the artist signature on print its self. Maybe the framing Co. sized the print per the owners request. I'm not familiar with framing Co. But this print reminds me of the same framing style and type like those of the Haynes Photo's of Yellowstone National Park. Thin wood frame with a single white matte paper with a printed line to outline the print.

The print is a watercolor of two Nordic skiers in knickers with rucksacks standing overlooking the distance mountains and valley. The bulk of the painting is white because 3/4 of it is snow (two skiers in that 3/4) with the exception of the distant view the skiers are looking at.

In my opinion this is an amazing piece because of the rule of thirds and composition.

My questions are:
1. Is the label stating, By courtesy of Mrs. Newton Trier the artist name?

2. How can I find the artist name going by the title or label on the back?

3. How can I find the artist name and another print.

4. Can someone direct my as to what my next step is in finding another print?

Thank you so kindly for any help you can bring. You may email me directly, please be sure to add in the subject line "Two Skier Print". I can also email a photo of the print upon request.

I've been looking for a painting I saw in a book as well. It was a scene painted in red and black. Two people are walking down a path in a field towards a barn or a house.

Any help?

Default Trying to identify painting

I have a painting that is signed by maybe a Slyvester Shmidt or Stamait?? It is hard to be sure of the last name, but he draws a line across the top of both names and has USA after it. It is a cottage with a thatched roof, flowers, hens in grass, very rural and farmish.

Default Need an ID

I'd like to identify a painting. Can you help?

The painting is of a young girl/woman. She is wearing a large ruffled neck collar. Her hair is pulled back and has jeweled ornaments. She is elaborately dressed in a orange silk-like tunic, with pearls, jewels, and oval shaped white shells.

Could it be Henry John Sylvester Stannard.http://www.google.ca/images?q=Henry%20John%20Sylvester%20Stannard&oe=ut f-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi

Here's an example of his signature.

Default I

I have a copy of this picture that has the profile of a nude woman standing in water up to her knees (lake, pond, etc.) with her arms throned back and there is this spray of water that is encircling her. There is some limbs from a tree on the right side of it. The artist name is at the bottom but I can not make it out.
Someone had printed it off the computer; I think it is black and white. I would really like to see who it is, I love it. If you would like to see it please e-mail me at lorribelle2005u@yahoo.com.

I saw this gorgeous painting of a naked man with his eyes closed lunging to the side kind of with his eyes closed and his head down. It's in blue and purple colors (I want to say oils but I honestly don't know. He has what looks like an asian symbol on the side of his shoulder. It looks like he's in pain. I know this isn't a lot of information but can anyone help me out?

Default Trying to find out artist name through description of painting style

Hi, I was recently in Italy and Austria and came across a store window with a painting of a dog (brown and white, looked like a spaniel breed) with Renaissance era clothes on. The clothes I believe were dark red and the dog also had a big white ruffled collar on, and the clothes were definitely men style. My friend now (after we left Italy) would like to look into the piece and I'm trying to locate it. Thanks!

Here's a link of a picture of a man who has similar clothes to the dog in the painting, at least with the collar.
