Hi All
I've been trying to figure out who did the painting in this link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15716804/Klovn%20001.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15716804/Klovn%20002.jpg As I see the signature it says "Chevalier" but i cant find any info about this artist. Any of you know this artist? Regards Lars |

Here's my non-expert opinion: It looks like "Chevalier" is written wrong. The second-last letter is written as a "c" and shouldn't have an accent over it. Sometimes signatures are sloppy, but I honestly can't see an artist misspelling his own name like that. In other words, I doubt the painting is French and I doubt it dates from 1964.

Hi John
Thank you for your response It's been in my family since atleast 1972 så it must be close to the sixties. As for the signature I was also very confused about the 2 dots. Could it be Chevaliér? I looks as though the first dot is indeed a dot and the second is elongated and (is it called) Itallic? That might be an é instead of an i. Regards Lars |

It could be Chevaliér, in fact that's what seems to be intended, but neither the word nor the name would normally be written with an accent over the final e. As for the date, if it's been in your family that long then maybe it does date from 1964.
