Hello!
I am hoping that someone can help me identify the name the name of a painting I once saw but have since forgotten both the artists and the title. I want to say it is a 19th century French painting. The scene is set on a large staircase, presumably in a palace, court, or some other sort of important seat of power. Several lavishly dressed high ranking figures (possibly Cardinals or other religious men) are walking up the steps. These men of power are looking back over their shoulder rather fearfully at a man walking alone down the stairs dressed in a very simple brown cloak. I thought the painting was called "The Adviser" or the "The Counselor" or something to do with the fact that the plainly dressed man has power far exceeding his station because he has the ear of most powerful men. Thank you in advance for any help! Cheers, Dave |
