I am not familiar with the artist, but it sure doesn't look like any of the Paul Citroen works I was able to find online.

Here's an extremely similar painting on eBay that the seller CLAIMED was by Paul Citroen.

That's what I found out. The painting images on google show different style of the artist. The one on ebay is almost identical and is claimed to be by Pual Citroen.
The dutch letter "e" used in the signature at least reveals the country of origin of the artist. Maybe its just another Citroen from Holland but not Paul Citroen?

Very possibly, but it doesn't seem to be a well-known artist. I can't find any record of another painter of that name in my records or online except for a brief mention of an "Andre Citroen" at Findartinfo.com.

Rose Hill Auction Gallery had a painting on auction in 2007 which had a big similarity with the painting you got and they thought the artist was Paul Citroen too.

Paul Citroen’s name is without the Ë so it couldn’t be his painting.

The way CITROËN is written is not typical Dutch but more French.

Here is quote from the seller on Ebay

" This ORIGINAL VINTAGE OIL PAINTING on canvas is by PAUL CITROEN and SIGNED CITROEN Lower Left. It is 100% GUARANTEED and is BEING SOLD WITHOUT RESERVE. CONDITION OF PAINTING : EXCELLENT: There are NO HOLES, TEARS, CRAQUELURE, RESTORATION, DISCOLORATION, PAINT LOSS, or STAINS. It measures 20" X 16" unframed. Paul Citroen is a Very Well Listed Dutch Artist Whose Auction Records can be Found in Davenport's Art Price Guide 2009/2010. HIS PAINTINGS HAVE SOLD FOR UP TO $25,000.00. His Paintings can be Found in the Best Collections, Museums, and Upscale Galleries Throughout the World"

So, who should I trust?

In the absence of an art expert (which I am not), you have a comparison of signatures to go on (if you can find a good example) and you have your own artistic judgment as to whether these flower paintings could be by the famous Paul Citroen.

I personally am skeptical, and given that the seller listed a painting by a $25,000 artist for just $250 and attracted zero bidders, I guess I'm not the only one.

P.S. The Paul Citroen collage on this page is signed at the lower right.

Also the fourth work in this page is signed by Paul Citroen, and perhaps some of the others.

thanks, nice find.
Different styles, different signatures. No Ë in the Citroen. I am sure the one I have does not belong to Paul's.
I think galleries that make auctions should research better before claiming someone's work.

I have a similar painting with the same signature. I have been trying to figure out who the artist is with no luck.
