I cannot for the life of me find anything about this painting except that it was used as the cover of Colm Toibin's short story compendium "Mothers and Sons," and I know the painting pre-dates the book. Please help!
http://www.panmacmillan.com/BookFram...ID=FC&Size=0.8 That's the painting. Thanks! |

Greetings,
That book cover is taken directly from a painting by Rene Magritte - Surrealist artist. Legally, they can not and should not have used that work of art without crediting the source. It is a violation of copyright. Here is a link to the complete painting, "The Lovers" (Les Amants): http://nga.gov.au/International/Cata...ID=2&GalID=ALL If the link does not work, simply enter Rene Magritte is Google images. Glad to be able to help. Judy Decker |

Thank you, Judy! I don't own the book but I'm sure they've properly credited the artist on the back cover. I can't imagine a large publishing house not doing that. |
