I know nothing about art but I bought these years ago. I took them to the local art museum to speak with someone to help. He seemed to think they were from the 1920s. He thought they were the original artwork for a book. He didn't have any clue beyond that. They are not signed and are very thick. I guess it was first drawn then they used watercolor(i really don't know). You can still see the pencil marks from the original sketch. If anyone has any clue or a site/person who may be able to help. Thanks in advance been wondering about these for years.

This is a long shot, but I came across a blog yesterday while doing some research about Howard Pyle (the important American Illustrator), and it contained an image that had identical black/orange color and paper and reminded me of yours in a small way. The blogger is apparently a Pyle expert, so perhaps you can contact him. The blog was entitled "Odd, Mod Pyle", dated Wed May 11, 2011. His name is: Ian Schoenherr and he is an illustrator who calls himself an "amateur expert" on Howard Pyle.
http://howardpyle.blogspot.com/2011/...-mod-pyle.html To be honest, I've seen lots of Pyle illustrations and nothing I've ever seen would have led me to guess Howard Pyle as the illustrator of your pieces, but the blogger might be your best shot to either authenticate it as a Pyle or discredit that idea entirely. Good luck. |

Thanks for your response. I see some similarities in the picture from the link. I also don't see much other similarities to Pyle. I did send Ian an email hoping he may have a lead or any ideas. I also see some similarities to Napoleon at the Saint Bernard Pass. That had been a thought of someone. Maybe a spoof from a old political comic or something. Thanks again
