Hi all, thanks for having a place like this. A friend has this painting in our storage area. He's thinking of letting it go, but accurate info and value at the moment is hard to come by. His memory hasn't been much good except he bought it in Hawaii in the late 80's and says it's a well know artist for this type of painting. What I have to go on is the word "electro" and a letter/number sequence on the back. The date and artist name is on the front, but I cannot make out the signature with any degree of accuracy. It is also a large original (at least 5' x 4' framed.) Maybe any of this might be familiar to someone here. I'll include a couple of pics.
Date: 1987 Possible Title: electro artist thought to be Erikson, or some variation of the spelling. Thanks in advance for any help from the forum, and have a wonderful Turkey Day! Shawn ![]() ![]() |

Trine Mauritz Eriksen? It has a similar kind of energetic abstraction.
<added> Apparently she's a textile artist, but you never know. It also kind of reminds me of Paterson Ewen, for the same reason. |

Thanks John, I see what you mean. I checked both, but didn't find the piece I'm asking about. Hopefully a few others may chime in to help solve the mystery.

Well I really like the work, whoever it's by.
I just noticed that the red lines on the print seem to be casting shadows. Is that illusionistic, or are the red lines on the glass or in some other way creating actual shadows? |

Everything including the red is on the canvas, nothing on the glass. But since you brought it to my attention, the shadowing I see is from the "pastel" (pink, gold, etc.) horizontal lines seemingly reflected on the white sphere (bubble like) shapes. Very cool as I haven't really gotten into the details very much yet. Thanks for the observation

Still haven't found anything definitive on this piece. Kind of let it go over the holiday though. Does anyone one know of other resources that might be of help? I'll get a pic and post a close up of the artist signiture. Maybe someone would recognize that. And John, it's great that you try and help on almost every question!
Thanks again, Shawn |

Thanks. BTW, what is the letter/number sequence you were referring to? That might be a clue.

Hey, I just took another look online and found an artist named Mark Erickson who does abstract work sort of like this.

Definitely Mark Erickson. I went to the Artinfo.com art sales index and found a painting called "Day Rites" that has the same drop-shadow effect that your painting does.
If you register (I believe there's no cost), you can seen that they have records of his works selling at auction for $800 in 2004 and $400 in 2010. |

John, you're the man! That's got to be him. Now I just need to verify the piece itself. Thanks so much. It's so much better when one actually has something to go on. I'll give an update when I get more news.
Thanks again, Shawn |
