old oil painting 29"x39"-no name-no date
I picked this old oil painting in an estate sale and no one could tell me anything about it other than it had been in the family forever. The scene has several people who appear to be wounded or hurting and there is a cross and a shovel as though they are going to bury one and a castle is in the background. The people are around an ancient stone structure that is falling down. The painting may be a couple hundred years old but I am only guessing. It is very European or Spain. There is a coarse plain weave backing canvas and a top lining canvas that is twill weave. The frame may have been added later and has lap joints at the corners which I have never seen before on a frame. I am going to try to upload the picture but am having difficulty doing it.
