Default Help identifying a painting

Hi,

My granddad donated a painting to a museum and I would like to try and identify it as my mom would love a copy. I think the signiture is something like GO Bottomsley but I'm not sure.

Any help would be appreciated

There's an R.O.Bottomley?

You'd need to post a clear photo of the signature for more indepth help I'm afraid.

Regards,
Tim

Sounds plausible. Here's all I have about "R.O. Bottomley":

Possibly the same person as Reginald Bottomley (1856-1933)?

Thank you. I have looked at the signature for R.O Bottomley and the handwriting is different. I will go back to the museum and take another photo

In any case, Artprice has a list of about 8 artists named "Bottomley". Just type that word into their search box:
http://web.artprice.com/start.aspx?l=en

And the Getty database has 6 artists by that name:
http://www.getty.edu/vow/ULANServlet?english=Y&find=bottomley&role=&page=1& nation=

These lists aren't absolutely exhaustive and don't necessarily cover contemporary artists that well, but they should contain any prominent artist who was working, say, 100 years ago.

Default R O Bottomley

R O Bottomley was a painter who lived in Oldham, Lancashire. He was a friend of (John) Houghton Hague, the painter of 'The Lancashire Taxidermist' or 'Owd Jed' which is at Gallery Oldham. He died in 1886 in Oldham. He was a friend of my great grandfather and great uncle who became Secretary and treasurer of 'The Bottomley Fund´which raised money from local people to support his widow.
