a technique in art which simultaneous depiction of events occur ar distinct chronological times is called?

Scott McCloud has a long discussion of this sort of thing in his great book Understanding Comics. I don't see him giving it a specific name, but it's a form of sequential art (assuming that the elements depicted in the scene are interrelated and intended to be read in some kind of sequence -- most likely left-to-right and/or top-to-bottom).
