I am looking for some help to identity this oil painting. I bought it today from someone who claimed their grandmother owned it for years and she said it was painted by someone famous but can't recall who it was. It is 10" x 13" and in a very poor frame. There is no markings or signature anywhere.
One thing that is strange about it is where it has been exposed to the light, it has tuned green. When I took it out of the frame the part that was covered did not have the green tint. If anyone thinks it is worth while, I can take more pictures. ![]() |

That's cool. Thanks for the help. Does anyone have any idea why this painting turned so green? It is a painting; you can see the strokes. You can also see the canvas behind the paint, but it is laminated to a piece of thin pressed board.
My guess is it looks over eighty years old, from the way it has aged, but I really have no clue. Are copies like this ever worth anything? |

If it's an oil painting then my guess would be that there's varnish on the painting that turned green (although it seems to me that varnish usually yellows). If so, a professional could clean it right off and restore the colour significantly.
