Default Old Painting handed down from great grandma

Hello all!! I have been searching like crazy for some info on a painting. Here is the story of the painting.. My great grandma had a painting giving to her in the 1970's from a 90 year old woman that she had been taking care of. The 90 year old woman had it her whole life, where she got it I'm not sure. My great grandma then gave it to my mother in the 80's before she passed. Now the horribly sad part is my great grandma cut it to fit a frame... and of course cut the artist name out. What a bummer huh? I know it greatly effects the value but its not the value I am concerned with, I want to know who painted it and if its from anyone notable. It's a beautiful painting. So if anyone could give me any info on it all that would be awesome. thanks

Quite a dramatic portrait, maybe even a little racy for the time. If it's a portrait of a specific person, it looks a little like Sarah Bernhardt.
