I own an old oil painting (landscape, oil/canvas with an old town in the background), as far as I can see dated 49 right behind the monogram A.O.S. (I don't know what 49 stands for, 1749? 1849? )
Can anybody tell me who the artist is? Thank you for any information! Kind regards, Andy |

I found two such artists in the Getty ULAN database. It's possible it could be one of them, although paintings from the 18th century are quite rare so i doubt it would be Swalue.
Austin Osman Spare (English illustrator, painter, and graphic artist, 1888-1956) Albartus Otto Swalue (Dutch artist, 1683-ca. 1768) Findartinfo.com also has a huge database of artists. They have some interesting search choices, but I don't know if there's any way to search by initials. |

Thanks for your quick answer, I'll try to find something out as far Spare and Swalue are concerned. I attached some pics, maybe it helps to figure out what exactly it is. I've no idea if the style is 18th or 19th century. What do you think?
Kind regards, Andy |
