Default Help with identifying old painting

[This was also posted originally in the General threads. Sorry for the duplication]

My parents have had a painting, which they received as a wedding gift in 1944 (married in northern California). It is so lifelike, it could be a photograph, but it has faded so I cannot be certain. I cannot find any clear marking on it.

I recently photograph the painting, and did some retouching. I posted a smaller version here:

I would greatly appreciate any assistance with identifying the artist or the artwork title.

Scroll down near the bottom of this page for the same picture, entitled "Paradise Lake". It appears to be an old photograph.
