Default China Street Scene Painting

I saw a monochrome painting of a Chinese street scene about 25 years ago in a Lahaina, Hawaii gallery. I could barely afford a burger then, but would very much like to find the painting now. It was a view looking down on a crowded street and formed a 'V' or sorts that focussed in on a single figure moving with the mass of people. I believe the figure was carrying a baby. The time frame of the scene would have been late 1800s to early 1900s I would guess and the style was abstract but still life-like. I believe the artist is/was contemporary at the time.
The painting was nearly 4 feet by 4 feet in size.
