Default Man Playing a Flute by a window

I am not very good at describing pictures but I have got a picture of a man playing a flute by a window. I am sure it is nothing but a print but it is very good. The man has a folder by his feet and there is the initials ME written backwards. On the bottom right corner there is the name F.G. Stevenson written very clearly in pencil. It is very pretty and seems to have been in the frame for a very long time.

What a coincidence. I was just looking to see if I had received any replies to my little contribution which comes immediately under yours - the coincidence being that I know the answer. Helen, come into the VIP lounge, you are a fortunate lady. What you have is a Mezzotint and it is the signed work of a very famous English engraver called FG Stevenson. The picture itself with the initials ME written backwards is The Flute Player by Meissonier who was a French artist who spent a lot of time painting pictures of Napoleon. You have not won the Lottery jackpot but you have a nice little possession which in England might be worth about £150. Congratulations. L.S.Field.
