Question Current info on Wang Yani

Has anyone any current information about this artist? My daughter who is in 3rd grade has chosen to do a report on Wang Yani, and the most current information written about her is dated 1991. She was born in 1975 and was recognized as a artist by age 3, but we can't find out what happened to her when she became an adult. The last info is when she was about 16, she would be about 31 now. Thank you for any information.

We are looking for information on her too. Did you ever find anything about Wang Yani as an adult?

Smile Yani Today

Hey,
to Debra and to Mrs. Kelter's 3rd. grade class. I am an art teacher from NC and I have been corresponding with Yani off and on for a few years. It started with my own search for more info on Wang Yani on the Internet. I had seen her work in our school library and wanted more infomation on her so I could do a lesson with my classes. I posted inquiries for months and finally received answers from a german couple from Munich. That led to a few letters from Yani herself. She is now 31 (?), living in Munich and was recently married to another Chinese artist, Min-An. Last year she gave birth to her first daughter. Her work is restricted for sale here in the States but she is still producing beautiful works, quite a different style and subject matter from her monkeys but gorgeous still nonetheless. If you are interested in seeing some of her most recent works,or the address of the gallery with which she works, e-mail me at thaurilick@yahoo.com.

hey here's some info.

Wang Yani ( WANG YAH nee) was born in southern China. It is a beautiful country with mountains, rivers, and all kinds of animals.

Yani grew up in a loving family. Her father was an art teacher and a painter. He would take her to work with him, and she started drawing on the wall of his studio when she was two and a half years old, so he gave her some sheets of paper on which to draw. At first it was just scribbling, but by the time she was three years old, her drawings and paintings were realistic. They looked just like the object or animal she was trying to draw.

When she was four years old, her father gave her a pet monkey. After that, monkeys became her favorite subject to paint. She would make up stories about her paintings. Sometimes she would listen to music while she painted.

When she was eight years old, her father, Wang Shiqiang, gave up his career as an artist because he was afraid his style of painting might influence his daughter. He wanted her to develop her own style.

He took her on tours of many countries to broaden her experience. He was very strict with her. He said that he had to be strict because of her amazing talent and fame.

Her paintings are known throughout the world. She has shown her paintings in China, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, and the United States. The country of China even put one of her monkey paintings on a postage stamp!

You will enjoy reading more about Wang Yani in a book written about her. The name of the book is A Young Painter, the life and painting of Wang Yani, China's extraordinary young artist. It is written by Zheng Zhensun and Alice Low.

Default Wang Yani: Her learning.

I am doing a post grad paper and wonder what learning she was offered by her school or father. I understand his concerns re-her being influenced by him & am aware of his views on the restrictive Art education offered by Chinese Schools. Therefore, what direction or focus was she given apart from (I assume from her dad) technical tuition? Anyone with any knowledge on this or how Art is taught (learned) in other cultures (especially Chinese)? I would love to hear from you.

The title of my essay is:
'Discuss critically the Factors Which Help Pupils make Effective Progress in Learning (Art)'

Submission date: 5th November 2007.

Cheers, Vikki

Post Wow

The kid is in 3rd grade. It's not like your writing a college report. Just use the old info and suck it up.

I have a book about prodigy children and there is a short chapter about her. I can scan it for you. (I have to do it anyway for a report I'm doing on artistic prodigies.) <By the way, if anyone has any information on that topic please let me know.

Thanks,
