Does anyone know the title and author of the religious painting which hangs in the living room of Gabrielle's home on the show 'Desperate Housewives'.
It is a tondo painting depicting Mary with the baby Jesus on her lap, and is set in a magnificent frame. As an art history major, I've been searching the web for months trying to find out about this painting, when last week, while watching a show about a local (Irish) historic house in Doneraile, Co. Cork, I saw archive footage of this very painting showing it being removed from the house back in the fifites! This house is only 30 miles from where I live!! Mind you, it may have been a copy, but it did not get a mention on the show. Can anyone help? -Desperate. |

For those of us who have never watched the show, have you found an image of it online somewhere?

No, unfortunately, I do not have an image of this painting. If it reappears on the show I do have a way of 'grabbing' the image and transferring it to my PC. But we will have to wait and see...

I should also mention that my first instinct was that it was probably Raphael's 'Madonna della Sedia'. However, when I looked at this painting again I felt that it was not the same as the painting on the show. Perhaps I was wrong, and they are in fact the same painting?
Anyone confirm or deny? |

I watched Desperate Housewives tonight and caught just the bottom of the painting you are referring to. From what I saw, it looked like Raphael's Madonna della Seggiola
or The Seated Madonna in 1514 http://www.wga.hu/frames-e.html?/htm.../07sedia1.html Is that the painting? I don't recall ever seeing the whole painting. Judy Decker |

The painting is the Madonna of the Chair (The Seated Madonna (Seggiola)) by Raphael
Size : 71 x 71 cm, 1514 A gold border was added for the framing. The cost of purchasing a replica in oil is approximately $1,700.00 Canadian . |

Madonna della Seggiola with frame Dimensions? 1.40 x 1.10 for which we were told next generation of a wealthy Italian family apparently by wear data between 1800 and 1850 so it is assumed we were reading, 100 replicas were made in the year 1800 and subsequent I wonder if you would be interested to offer table for sale, is an imposing table there are not many mirrors, since the original is original in the Palazzo Pitti in Florence. The 'Madonna della Sedia' around 1514 http://bp3.blogger.com/_k4NGZsLs1Eg/...05-08_1450.jpg |
