Does this description ring a bell?
Remembering from years gone by (1969+) visits to a relative every summer. The painting on her wall was this: A monk/brother held in one hand a palette, and he was scratching his head with his other hand in puzzelment as his looked at his subject, a pope (?), who had fallen asleep or died while sitting for a portrait. The portrait in progress by the "younger" is seen half finished on the easel. It depicts the "older" posing with a book (bible?) on his lap I believe, but in the "big picture" the book has falling to the floor and the "older" now has his head bowed with his hands clasped on his lap. I believe a sun beam thru the window is casted on/above the sleeping man.
I know "zip" about art. I couldn't guess from what period it is, what style it is, etc. I have goggled under catholic, christian, religious.....just can't pin point it. Can anyone help direct me?
Thanks bunches, Liza
