Default elegant lady

I hope someone can help me identify the artist and period of I painting I was fortunate enough to obtain which I absolutely love. I have owned it for about eight years and have not been able to obtain any information about it.

The painting is a portrait of a young lady in an elegant ivory dress with a plain neckline which has flowers (a small flower which could be a rose and two white flowers, which could be peonies or carnations, attached to the front of the neckline. She is wearing a gold necklace, possibly a locket and is facing toward her left, with her left hand holding her right hand. Her right hand has a gold ring on it.

Her hair is dark and styled high on top and pulled back away from her face.

The portrait is oval and is looks like an oil painting with no glass covering and the frame appears to be very old.

Any information on the portrait or where else I might look to identify it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Default Elegant Lady Portrait

Greetings,

Do you have access to a digital camera? Take a picture of the painting and zoom in and photograph the signature (if one is present).

You will have to become a member to upload the images.

We might be able to help you - but without close examination, it would be hard for us to tell if it is a print of an oil painting on canvas - or an actual oil painting. You have to look very close to see if the texture of the canvas matches up with the texture of the canvas in the painting. You can also tell by looking at the edges of the painting (print) taken out of the frame.

Looking at the image, we may be able to give you a time period based on the style of clothing the women is wearing and the style of her hair. Your description sounds like many paintings I have seen (most of them very large portraits in national museums).

Regards,

Judy Decker

Thank you for your reply. I will try to get a photograph of the piece and upload it. I am so excited that I might be finally able to identify it.
